Understanding Genaty's DNA Testing Technology

At Genaty, we employ a sophisticated genotyping technique that focuses on identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which are the most common type of genetic variation among people. This method involves determining the presence of specific SNPs to infer information about your genetic traits, such as hair color, eye color, and much more.

How Genotyping Works at Genaty:

  1. SNP Detection: We use an advanced genotyping chip designed to analyze hundreds of thousands of common SNPs across your genome.
  2. Imputation Technique: To expand our analysis, we apply imputation methods that increase the number of analyzed SNPs to over 80 million. This process predicts variants at non-genotyped SNPs based on the genotyped data we initially gather.
  3. Accuracy and Reliability: Our genotyping process is highly accurate, thanks to the precise detection methods and rigorous control checks we implement. This ensures that we accurately identify which genetic variants you possess.

Comparing Genotyping and Sequencing:

  • Genotyping is faster and more cost-effective compared to sequencing. It focuses on specific points in your DNA to identify genetic variants, providing a snapshot of genetic predispositions.
  • Sequencing, while more detailed and comprehensive, is a method that involves recording the exact order of base pairs in a DNA segment. It can detect both common and rare genetic variations, but is more time-consuming and expensive.

Currently, Genaty uses genotyping because it meets the needs of most of our users efficiently and effectively, offering a quick turnaround and affordability. While we do not offer Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) due to its higher costs and longer processing times, genotyping provides substantial insights for personalized health analysis.

Why Genotyping Suits Our Users: Genotyping allows us to deliver detailed health reports quickly and affordably, making it an ideal choice for individuals seeking personalized health insights without the need for the extensive detail that sequencing provides. This technology is suitable for a wide range of health and wellness applications, from dietary recommendations to understanding genetic predispositions.

If you require more in-depth analysis due to specific health conditions or if you have a keen interest in a comprehensive genetic profile, sequencing might be a better option. However, for most users interested in actionable health insights and personal wellness, genotyping by Genaty offers a robust and practical solution.
